LA MIRADA, CA–(Marketwire -05/15/12)- BioLargo, Inc. (OTC.BB: BLGO), creator of patented iodine technologies, today announced the development of novel antimicrobial products for the advanced wound care industry and the formation of a wholly owned subsidiary BioLargo Medical Group, Inc., formed to advance proof of claims and pursue regulatory approvals. To run the new subsidiary, BioLargo is assembling a team of experts to capitalize on the industry’s demand for novel products. Unlike other iodine products, BioLargo’s iodine is non-toxic, non-staining, and can be delivered on demand in precision dosing at much higher levels. For the medical field, this means incorporating one of the best antimicrobials known to man into wound care products in a way that is safe and non-staining.

“Armed with positive results from testing and field trials by veterinarians and hoof care specialists of our recently developed hoof and leg products for animals, it became increasingly apparent to us that our technology could play a pivotal role in the human wound care field,” stated BioLargo’s president, Dennis Calvert. “With the need for wound care products without microbial resistance so great, the commitment to this vertical market became the next logical and necessary step.”
With disease resulting from antibiotic resistant bacteria such as c.diff and staph on the rise and ever more making headlines, the industry has a great need for a product with no known microbial resistance. Advanced wound care products include wound washes, wound gels, and wound dressings, among others. As reported in the Wall Street Journal, current research projects that the globaladvanced wound care market will rise to nearly $21 billion in 2015. Significant areas of development are within the areas of antimicrobials (including iodine), hydrogels and other dressings.

BioLargo’s new products have achieved high levels of antimicrobial efficacy without cytotoxicity in lab tests and are being developed and refined in preparation for market introduction upon receiving appropriate regulatory approvals. BioLargo’s CupriDyne® technology is green, and can be delivered in a liquid, gel or ointments.

BioLargo has made recent additions to the team with the anticipation of the formation of BioLargo Medical Group. Last year, Biolargo brought on board an experienced medical professional with an advanced wound care background, and has recently added another experienced wound care professional to assist with regulatory strategy and business development. The Company expects to continue to identify and recruit professionals from this field to assist in executing its business plan. “We are highly encouraged by the response from industry and believe our work in this area is both important and significant,” stated Calvert.

They deliver the market’s highest dose of free iodine in solution while retaining its non- staining, G.R.A.S. (Generally Regarded as Safe) designation, as well as its non-toxic and green attributes. Slated to become a staple in BioLargo’s product menu, the stabilized formula provides a platform for new products because additional ingredients can easily be added to create a host of new applications. BioLargo will continue to validate the base product and secure commercial opportunities while it seeks to establish a distribution channel.

BioLargo further announced it contracted with a “dairy industry” distributor located in Tulare California to begin distributing its new and existing iodine based products. The new distributor, Green Alpha Solutions, LLC, is led by two regional dairy industry experts who bring innovative technology based solutions to the regional dairy marketplace. BioLargo will continue separate discussions with licensing and manufacturing partners to advance new product designs to best serve this highly specialized market.

On the consumer front, BioLargo announced it had developed a family of consumer products branded DeodorAllTM for household stain and odor removal and spill clean-up. The Home Shopping Group will produce, manage and broadcast a series of direct response television campaigns to introduce the product to the marketplace in the coming months. BioLargo will supply products to the project on a wholesale price basis while maintaining approval rights for content that is created.

BioLargo further announced it has established a relationship with Spill Experts, Inc., a company that specializes in spill clean-up products with more than 20 years in the industry.

Spill Experts recently tested BioLargo’s technology in multiple client trials which proved highly effective for use in cleaning up human body fluids and controlling odor with a target market focused on public buildings and public transportation like buses, trains, subways and the like. As a result of the success of the trials, BioLargo has agreed to supply Spill Experts absorbent materials treated with its BioLargo® technology, in bulk, in order for Spill Experts to combine the materials with its own absorbents and sell a Spill Experts branded product in the US and Canada. The mark, “BioLargo® Technology Inside,” will be displayed on the front of the package. Spill Experts placed its first order and the new products are being marketing by Spill Experts.

BioLargo continues to advance its work in animal and human health areas. It successfully concluded its first phase testing to verify that its product formulas are non-cytotoxic and effective as a disinfectant against of host of pathogens commonly found in a healthcare setting. Its animal health products are being tested in a host of non-commercial settings by leading veterinarians across the nation.

“In many ways, we have only shown the world the ‘tip of the iceberg’ of the expansive opportunities for our commercial success,” commented Dennis Calvert, President and CEO. “Our product development work with Central Garden and Pet has led to the creation of a number of complete product designs which we believe are ready for market, and a long list of potential future products for the pet industry. Similarly, in each industry in which we focus, we have products that represent a starting point and at the same time, we face the exciting opportunity to develop a complete line of products to serve those industries. The core technology is well established and with the addition of our world-class team members over the past year, it is now a great time for BioLargo to refine, focus and execute to help solve serious problems that face industry and our world.”

LA MIRADA, CA–(Marketwire -12/01/11)- BioLargo, Inc. (OTC.BB: BLGO.OB – News), creator of patented iodine technologies, today announced that it has been selected as a founding member of a Canadian NSERC “research chair” formed to solve the contaminated water and tailings ponds problems associated with the oil sands industry. Led by University of Alberta Professor Mohamed Gamal-El Din, a leading expert in the area of water treatment and advanced oxidation, and funded by the Canadian government through the University of Alberta’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the primary area of focus of the “NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Oil Sands Tailings Water Treatment” is to develop proactive water management strategies to dramatically reduce the footprint and environmental impact of existing tailings ponds operations.

The Canadian Oil Sands are the second largest deposit of oil in the world. Extracting oil from the Oil Sands creates high volumes of contaminated water (between 2 and 4.5 barrels of water to produce one barrel of synthetic crude oil), currently discharged in “tailings” ponds, sometimes for years, to separate the solids from the liquids for eventual recycling or safe discharge into the environment. With Canadian oil production estimated to increase from 1.9 million to over 6 million barrels of oil a day over the next 20 years, the released water from oil sands operations is estimated to reach one billion cubic meters in the Athabasca oils sands region by 2025. An innovative solution that can reduce the water treatment time, and thus the overall footprint and environmental impact of the tailings ponds, is required for Canada to meet its production goals. It is widely believed that the future of oil sands exploration, its social and economic contribution as the second largest oil reserve in the world, and its contribution to the public good of both Canada and the Unites States, hinges on industry’s ability to manage the wastewater in tailings ponds.

In addition to BioLargo, the new Research Chair is sponsored by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), as well as a number of related researchers and industry stakeholders that include world-leading oil companies and the regional water district for the Province of Alberta.

“We are honored to be part of this important work for Canada and the United States,” stated BioLargo President and CEO Dennis Calvert. Ken Code, the company’s Chief Technical Officer added, “The Chair objectives are perfectly aligned with our goal to improve the quality of life for people worldwide, while we work to protect the environment, and produce positive economic results for our customers, partners, and stockholders. We look forward to serving with the other founders.”

LA MIRADA, CA–(Marketwire – Oct 6, 2011) – BioLargo, Inc. (OTCBB: BLGO), creator of patented iodine technologies, today announced that it had entered into a joint venture relationship whereby it purchased a 50% interest in the patents and other intellectual property surrounding the Isan system. BioLargo’s prior license agreement with Ioteq Inc., relating to the Isan system, was formally terminated on October 3, 2011. As a result of the transaction, the Isan system technology is now owned on an equal basis between BioLargo and Peter Holdings Pty. Ltd., which was the principal source of capital that funded the development and commercial efforts related to Ioteq IP Pty. Ltd. and the Isan system. The intellectual property was purchased by Peter Holdings and BioLargo from Ioteq IP Pty. Ltd., which has now ceased operations and is in process of liquidation.
“BioLargo’s existing iodine technologies are synergistic with the Isan system,” stated BioLargo President and CEO, Dennis Calvert. “The Isan system has received patents in multiple countries, and regulatory approval in Australia and New Zealand. Currently there are approximately 150 installations being serviced by a local Australian distributor with an emphasis in hydroponics, irrigation supply and post harvest wash related uses.”
“The patented Isan system is a proven iodine based disinfection system for use across many industries. It has a robust history and commercial proof of claims that have been advanced in Australia over the past nine years. It has been referred to as one of the most important technical advancements in food safety in the past 20 years, and won a ‘top 50 water company award’ by the Artemis Project in 2010. We believe its role in sustainable water recycle and reuse programs will be of global interest as we work to position it as a staple technology in agriculture production, processing and food safety programs. We have been encouraged by the feedback and interest we have received from key global industry participants since we began working with the Isan system in 2008. Recent food borne illness and even death from dangerous pathogens like listeria, salmonella and E. coli all point to the need for the traceability and reliability for disinfection performance that the Isan system offers. We are thankful for our relationship with Peter Holdings and the Isan system and we have high expectations for its future.”

LA MIRADA, CA–(Marketwire – Sep 29, 2011) – BioLargo, Inc. (OTCBB: BLGO), creator of patented iodine technologies, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark office had granted BioLargo two additional patents. The new patents advance intellectual property protection of BioLargo’s core iodine technology. The first patent relates to the use of its iodine technology to eliminate germs in a confined area such as liquid circulation systems, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, vehicle cabs, and vehicle seating areas and includes gaseous iodine. The second patent issued advances protection of its core technology to include stabilization of the reactive components.
“These patent advancements are another milestone in our journey to continue building our robust intellectual property estate,” stated BioLargo’s chief technology officer Ken Code.
“We are thankful to add patent protection to our growing portfolio of intellectual property which includes our know-how and trade secrets. We have been fortunate to add key executives to our team over the past year with special expertise in their respective industries, like Vikram Rao, PhD, former CTO of Halliburton and Executive Director of the Research Triangle Energy Consortium; Mr. Harry DeLonge, former senior technical executive at Pepsi and top industry award winner from AWWA and International Society of Food and Beverage Technologists; Tim Johnson, who built and sold a successful medical device company to Smith and Nephew; and Richard Bickerstaff, PhD, chemist with over 20+ years of oil and gas industry experience. As we advance our proof of claims and intellectual property we also are more able to target specific product designs to meet and help solve some of the most pressing and important issues facing each of these industries. BioLargo’s combination of technology and team is potent and rare,” stated BioLargo’s president Dennis Calvert. “We are in a great position to advance our business plans in these areas.”

Bickerstaff, PhD, to its team, to assist in the opportunities presented in the oil and gas industry and to provide technical support to the various business development teams within the company. Dr. Bickerstaff received a PhD in chemistry from Carnegie Melon University. His training in the oil and gas industry began as a child as his family mentored him as they drove through the oil fields of Western Pennsylvania (now known as the Marcellus and Utica shale formations), selecting well locations and even participated on his first well at age nine. He went on to earn multiple degrees including chemistry, robotics and economics, as well as securing four securities licenses. Between the oil sands and the fracking waters, BioLargo has an important role to play in helping improve safety and helping industry continue to maintain best practices to protect the environment. Our technology helps address the most important water management issues that are pivotal in oil sands and natural gas production which are believed to be the fastest growing and likely the most important segments of the oil and gas industry because they are widely believed to be the key to developing energy self-sufficiency for North America,” stated BioLargo’s president, Dennis Calvert. “Dr. Bickerstaff will work closely with Kenneth Reay Code, our inventor and Chief Technology Officer, and our Senior Advisor Vikram Rao, former Chief Technology Officer of Halliburton and Executive Director of the Research Triangle Energy Consortium, to advance our claims and commercial plan.”

LA MIRADA, CA – (June 7, 2011) -BioLargo, Inc. (OTCBB: BLGO), creator of patented iodine technologies, today announced that, in response to customer demand, it has introduced new five pound packaging for its award-winning Animal Bedding Additive with an introductory retail price point of $19.98. The new package will contain the same product that earned the prestigious Horse Journal “Product of the Year” award in 2010, proven to reduce horse bedding use by over 50%, saving horse owners money each month while eliminating odors and wetness.

“Since winning the Horse Journal “Product of the Year” award last fall, we have enjoyed a surge in brand awareness and extensive customer feedback,” stated Joseph Provenzano, President of BioLargo’s wholly owned operating subsidiary, Odor-No-More, Inc. “As a result, many customers have asked us to produce a smaller sized convenient package. The new packaging will be available for sale to our distributors in July.”

Since executing a license and distribution agreement with Central Garden and Pet in March of this year, the company turned its focus to building additional sales resources within the equine industry. The company announced it has recently executed agreements with four experienced manufacturer’s sales representatives who will focus on specific regions to interact with and provide service to existing and new distributors, retailers and end users to drive market sell-through. “Our new sales representatives have successful track records and have established long standing relationships with distributors and retailers. They will help us cover about 75% of the United States, and provide invaluable in-person interaction with our customers and product retailers,” stated Provenzano. In addition, the company announced the signing of Veterinary Services, Inc. (www.vsi.cc) as a product distributor. VSI supplies products from six locations to over 3,000 customers across the Western United States in the beef, dairy, and poultry business, as well as feed supply and pet stores.
